Popis
|
| The Stoa Poikile (Painted Porch) was a public colonnade in the Ancient Agora of Athens where Zeno of Citium founded Stoicism around 300 BCE. Rather than teaching in a private academy, Zeno chose this busy gathering place to show that philosophy should be lived in everyday life. Stoics met there to discuss virtue, reason, self-control, and how to live in harmony with nature. Surrounded by bustling merchants, politicians, and citizens, they practiced applying philosophy to real-world situations. The Painted Porch became the birthplace of Stoicism and gave the philosophical school its name, a legacy that continues more than 2,000 years later. |
